Urban Camping
The Mercury News is reporting that the Girl Scouts and Brownies from Santa Clara County will be camping out on Saturday, October 25th. What’s odd about that? Nothing really, it’s what Girl Scouts do. Only these are Girl Scouts from Santa Clara Valley and while at one time the valley was a wide open expanse of grass and fields, it’s now largely strip malls and pavement, not really ideal for campouts. The solution? A sleepover at the Westfield mall.
The Scouts and their troop leaders and chaperones will be spending 12 hours at the shopping center participating in events that include shopping, eating, a dance party and learning about the Earth’s climate change with reps from the Climate Project.
I wonder if they will calculate the climatic impact on running the a/c, lights, etc for their camping trip vs simply sleeping under the stars….
