Back in the (wine) Saddle

Monday, September 17th, 2007

I have been so incredibly busy over the last few months, I have taken a bit of a break away from my podcast  - A Guy, a Girl, and a Bottle.  I felt very guilty at neglecting both the audience and the show itself, but I felt absolutely swamped with everything else.  I am very happy to have some time to get back to the fun of podcasting, and of course drinking wine.  Although podcasting itself can be quite a bit of work, picking a fun topic has really made the difference and it is hard to complain that doing a show is hard work when you are with great people, wonderful scenery, and excellent wine.  Recently Chef Mark and Jennifer from reMARKable Palate and Food Philosophy respectively were in town and Pam and I took them to a few of the local wineries here in the Santa Cruz mountains.  We had such a good time that I decided to post this video promo that we did a little while ago as sort of an ‘We’re Back’ announcement.  Grab a bottle and check out the show.

SF Zoo - what are they thinking?

SF Zoo @ the bear enclosure

Originally uploaded by mtnbkr1

A few weekends ago we decided to celebrate the end of summer at the San Francisco Zoo. We love going to the zoo, not only because the Lion House is one of the coolest attractions found in any zoo, but because our daughter absolutely loves animals. This time we were out to check out the new grizzly bear exhibit. The grizzlies were very playful, and we spent a fair amount of time watching them eat broccoli and frolic in their pool. (yeah, I said broccoli.  Who knew bears ate broccoli?!)
Anyway, we always buy our daughter a ‘key’ that activates a sound recording in front of some of the animal enclosures throughout the zoo. (The keys are animal-shaped and are fun to collect.) The funny thing is that when we approached the bear exhibit, the sound box was actually located out of reach - inside the enclosure! Obviously an oversight (and to be fair, on the safe side of the moat), but shouldn’t someone  realize that this might, perhaps, entice someone to jump over the fence, no? Shouldn’t this box be in reach of the children, rather than the bears? Thankfully, the lazy Sun Bears were not interested in our feeble attempts to reach the box, unlike this unlucky woman from another zoo.

First Post (What did you expect, Shakespeare?)

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Hello everyone. Welcome to The Joe Show. I figured I might as well get this first posting out of the way so I can get on with some real updates, so I’ll keep this short. I created this blog to keep up with friends, family, and anyone who might be interested in reading what sort of nonsense I put on this page. What can you expect from me in the future? Prolly updates on my hobbies (currently racing motorcycles, politics and drinking, and with any luck, I’ll even get back into mountain biking).

I expect to post fairly random things from fairly random places and only when I have something to say. We’ll see where this goes, who knows, I might just be the next Shakespeare after all, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
